HTTYD Fanart Gallery #1 – Theme: Best Friends Hiccup & Toothless

Woo-hoo! To kick off my weekly favourite How to Train Your Dragon fanart compilation, I’m starting with my favourite subject – showing the friendship between Hiccup and Toothless!
They’re such buddies, it’s adorable.

If you’ve watched the HTTYD series, you will have seen all the dragon riders develop the friendship with their dragons, and learn to get along and work together. The thing I’ve especially kept my eye out for, were cute and friendly Hiccup and Toothless (HicTooth) moments – and the series had plenty.

Well let’s get things started, and if you have some of your own HTTYD fanart that you’d like to show, or would like to nominate another artist, then by all means head over to the submissions page and send it my way! I’ll be putting older art into my favourite compilations, and posting the favourite latest art as it comes.
Maybe you could also sign up to the forum, and post your creative HTTYD goodies to the “Creative Wall” for other members to see.

A beautiful HTTYD painting! In fact, beautiful sunlit forest scenes are some of my favourite, and it seems that a lot of great HTTYD artists, like them as well. It’s a nice thought – just relaxing with your best buddy, doing nothing and not worrying about things for a while. Sometimes, the world can just wait.

In the HTTYD story, before the Vikings befriended the dragons, it would have been pretty dangerous to go into the forest like that – they would not have enjoyed the experience enough, to admire the light shimmering through the leaves. The danger of being attacked by a dragon was too big.

In case these two come across an overly dangerous dragon, then Toothless will protect Hiccup. Nothing to really worry about anymore. Unless of course those forests have ticks… but it’s probably much too cold for ticks to survive there.
(Reptiles do get ticks as well, did you know?)

A Quiet Moment – by Puppy-Chow

Young Hiccup and Toothless in forest, resting. The sunlight in this painting was handled well – I feel that good sunlight works wonders on paintings. Very peaceful and nice.
Young Hiccup is resting comfortably, and Toothless is perhaps watching fish swim by in the river.

Best Buds – by Kisechu

Best buds, indeed! These two (along with their Dragon Rider friends) have been through so many adventures together.
Again, lots of bright sunlight and a friendly moment – very nice.

Snugglins – by Barukurii

Hiccup and Toothless cuddled up and asleepAnother beautiful and bright scene. Napping must be extra comfortable, when you’re cuddled up to your best bud, who also happens to be one of – if not – the most powerful and intelligent of the dragons.
That cute butterfly is the “icing on the cake” – a lovely drawing.

Hiccup and Toothless with serious expression on their faces, looking towards viewer. An awesome duo. This drawing’s a bit unfinished in my opinion, but I like the pose and bright light and eyes, so this too is one of my favourites.

How to Train Your Dragon – by 77chen

Toothless and Hiccup, resting and looking at each otherAnother nice painting of two best buds, without a care and on top of the world. I wonder if this is also a painting of Hiccup and Toothless, resting at “Itchy Armpit”.
Pretty much everything started going wrong, shortly after their visit there. That’s what can happen when one steps out into the world – however, the world would have closed in on Hiccup and all of Berk regardless.
There’s no reasonable alternative to the chaos and dangers of life, and the lifelong learning required to stay on top of it all – especially when one stands out in a (good) way. The peace and rest can come later, after a long life of striving and growing.

What are you drawing? – by Besteck

Toohless resting on rock, watching Hiccup below drawing, there are sheep grazing around them. This painting so effortlessly tells of a lot of things at once: virtually no one with serious unmanaged turmoil in their lives will be able to sit in the grass amongst the sheep, relax and gladly draw things in their sketchbook.
Toothless, instead of being on the lookout for danger, is curious about what Hiccup is drawing. Even the sheep are calm.
Very nice and peaceful!

Whether in play, everyday life or in combat, Hiccup and Toothless were always buddies and a team.

Two Of a Kind – by Stalcry

Hiccup and Toothless resting on a log, looking towards the brightly sunlit forest.Lots of nice sunlight again. Since Toothless doesn’t have his prosthetic tail fin, these two would have walked there and decided to pause and look out into the brightly-lit forest.
That’s unlikely to be something one would do and enjoy, with someone who isn’t a close friend. Lovely scene!

Yet another painting showing Hiccup gliding through the air, with his buddy Toothless looking out for him, and enjoying the flight as well.
